TWA WATER HUB: INDONESIA
Welcome to the TWA WATER HUB | INDONESIA.
According to the World Bank report, Time to ACT: Realizing Indonesia’s Urban Potential, around 56% of Indonesians live in urban areas and the number of population keeps increasing each year. With this growth rate, demand for pipewater services will surge and local water utilities will struggle to keep up. As the largest archipelagic country in the world and surrounded by abundant water resources, Indonesia is still facing a challenge in providing a water supply that meets the demands. In other efforts to meet water demand, deep groundwater aquifers are over exploited in most urban areas, which led to land subsidence. Floods in the impacted areas has frequently damaged water infrastructure, disrupted access to clean drinking water, and increased disaster risks. Areas such as Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara have limited groundwater and face water scarcity. To secure water security in Indonesia, it is important to enhance resilience through risk-based planning and design, and good water management pracitices.
Since 2019, The Water Agency has been putting the best effort for the improvement of Indonesia water sector. So far, we have organized a number of challenge programs on the most pressing water issues across Indonesia including groundwater, river quality, and sustainable port development, bringing together professionals and students. We have also been actively collaborating with key stakeholders in the urban water and water logistics sector for various ongoing and future programs, and also providing business development services through our water hubs.
Whether your organisation has been active in Indonesia for many years or considering to set its first steps, our team is happy to support you in making the right connections in the Indonesian water sector and increasing the effectiveness of your (business) activities.

TWA WATER HUB: MYANMAR
Welcome to the TWA WATER HUB | Myanmar.
The Water Agency started operations in Myanmar in 2015. Since then we have been working towards a more transparent water sector in Myanmar, aiming to increase cooperation between government, universities, private and public organizations.
A large part of southern Myanmar consists of a delta, vulnerable for floods and extreme weather. There are major water related challenges being revealed now the country is economically developing, especially around Yangon – the economic capital. In the coming years Yangon is expected to expand from a mid-sized city (4.6 mln. people, 2014) into a metropole (10 mln. people, 2040). This requires infrastructure development of new bridge, sewage systems. In addition, the city aims to develop a new port complex close to Yangon, requiring the building of new dikes, sluices, bridges.
Good water management is essential when developing such a big project in a delta region. We work in close cooperation with the Netherlands Embassy in Myanmar, the Myanmar Water Partnership, Yangon City Development Committee and many other local organisations to promote a dialogue, encourage knowledge sharing and support capacity building.

TWA WATER HUB: VIETNAM
Mekong Delta is classified as one of the world’s most vulnerable deltas to climate change. Regarded as the “rice bowl” of Vietnam, agricultural strength in the Mekong Delta is affected by rising temperatures, salt intrusion, land subsidence, upstream hydropower dams, flooding and droughts. Facing the increasing water risks from climate change and surface water pollution from inadequate water infrastructure, Vietnam has taken steps to improve its water resource management via many water projects and environmental visions.
Since 2019, The Water Agency has been working closely with the Netherlands Embassy in Vietnam, local universities, authorities, young professionals and community for the improvement of education and knowledge on saline intrusion challenges, and adaptation measures to water-related climate challenges.
We do this through several activities, namely: our digital water portal ‘Vietnam Water Portal’, water challenges, innovative challenges (for example, Can Tho Raincraft), establishment of the Vietnam Water Hub and the building of communities of practice.
