Dr Toe Aung, a Bachelor of Science degree holder in the Forest Department, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, has a Master and Doctoral degree in Environment Science/PhD from Yokohama National University, Yokohama, Japan. He is a Deputy Director from Watershed Management Division, Mangroves and Coastal Resources Conservation Session, Forest Department. He also received Fulbright Visiting Research Scholar from Florida Gulf Coast University, U.S.A. He already published 12 articles about mangroves and ecosystem and three articles are in progress to published. He has attended, participated, organized and facilitated in several Training Courses, International Conferences, Symposiums, Forums, Workshops and Meetings held in national as well as international which are concerned with mangrove, ecosystem and Integrated Water Resources Management Knowledge and Practices in the country and the region.
Presentation Title - Flood Fighting in Upper Ayeyarwady DeltaU Tin Myint Aung is a Civil Engineer. He obtained his Bachelor Degree from Mandalay Technological University, MTU in 2004. He joined the Irrigation Department in 2006 as a Staff Officer (Civil) and was assigned to Irrigation Technology Center, ITC (Bago). He participated in the Irrigation Information Management Section for the development of better irrigation management system. He got his Master Degree in Flood Related Disaster Management from GRIPS (Graduate Research Institute For Policy Studies), Japan in 2013 with the scholarship program of JICA. He was transferred to Operation and Maintenance office of Ayeyarwady Region in 2014 where he has been working on flood protection works of IWUMD up to 2017. Currently, he has been assigned to Operation and Maintenance office of Mandalay Region, Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department.
Presentation Title - The Importance of Early Warning System in Flood ManagementShelly Win has about 9 years of working experience in water sector and also many good experiences on the international peer-review journal papers. Among them, she has 6 years of working experiences in two international projects – JICA-SATREPS Project and World Bank-AIRBM Project. Her areas of expertise include research and modeling experience in water resources sector, hydro-meteorological database system installation and analysis for early warning system, flood disaster risk assessment and management, sustainable river basin management, and design of irrigation hydraulic structures.
She got her bachelor of engineering degree in civil engineering from West Yangon Technological University in 2010. She completed her master of engineering degree in Yangon Technological University in 2014. She finished her Ph.D specialized in water resources engineering at Yangon Technological University in 2018 and during her research, she joined to the University of Tokyo as a research student in 2016 and 2017. Currently she is serving as a National Disaster Risk Management – Early Warning System Specialist in Fish Adapt project under FAO, Myanmar.
Presentation Title - Information about RiskCare Mobile ApplicationU Kyaw Zeyar Tint holds his Bachelor of Civil degree from YTU and Master Degree on Flood-Related Disaster Management from GRIPS (Graduate Research Institute for Policy Studies), Tokyo, Japan in (2011).
He got lots of experiences in Flood management and Flood Protection works as working as an assistant engineer in the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department (IWUMD), Ayeyarwady Delta area. In Nyaung Don Area during historical event, playing a vital role to protect flood protection embankments-about 77 miles in length. The enormous flood came in 2015 and 2016, during these events no embankments are a failure or breached. Also worked on Bathymetry survey works for many river areas in Ayeyarwady Region. Nargis Rehabilitation works in Pyapon Area by strengthening embankments and constructing sluices. Tidal Flood Protection Works in Yangon Region by channelization works and constructing the Sluices and Embankments. He is currently working in Design Branch, IWUMD, Yangon.
Presentation Title - Flood Mitigation in Yangon Using Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS)Yee Mon Thu completed her bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from West Yangon Technological University in 2010. She has been engaged in the field of water resources engineering since 2011. She received her master degree in Civil Engineering in February 2014 and started her PhD in December 2014 at Yangon Technological University. During her PhD study, she got a scholarship through Erasmus Mundus Mobility with Asia (EMMAsia) program and her PhD research was conducted in collaboration with the Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands, over one year.
Near completion of her PhD, she joined Royal HaskoningDHV Myanmar Company, in July 2018 and involved as a water resources specialist in several projects related to integrated water resources management together with national and international experts. After one year with RHDHV Myanmar, she is now running her own local consultancy firm together with two colleagues to provide technical consultancy services as a water resources specialist.
Presentation Title - Introduction to Water Sensitive Design and Role of some Water Sensitive Tools for Flood Control in Urban Areas (from Environmental perspective)Aung Naing Soe is an Assistant Engineer at the Design Branch of the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Myanmar. He has been devoting his time to Water Resources Management and Environmental Conservation specialization for nearly a decade. He got the Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from the Thanlyin Technological University. Additionally, I won the NZ Aid Scholarship funded by the New Zealand Government and he has recently graduated from the University of Auckland, New Zealand as the First Class Honours student with the Master of Engineering Studies (Environmental Engineering).
Presentation Title - Community-based Approaches to Flood Management in MyanmarNay Myo Lin received Master of Civil Engineering degree and M.S degree in flood-related disaster management from Yangon Technological University and Public Work Research Institute, Japan respectively. He is currently working as an Assistant Director at the Design Branch of Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department and also a PhD. candidate of Delft University of Technology. His interests include operational water management and flood risk management.
Presentation Title - Lessons from Bangladesh and Nepal: Role of WUA/WUG in Flood Management & DrainageTha Peng Cung is an emerging young water professional from Myanmar. He is currently working as a staff officer for the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation. Ethnically, he is Chin and graduated from the Technological University (Kalay) with a Civil Engineering Degree. Further, he did his Masters of Integrated Water Management (MIWM), run by the International Water Center and hosted by Griffith University.
