Bali Raincraft x The 10th World Water Forum

The Water Agency is pleased to announce Bali Raincraft x The 10th World Water Forum, a groundbreaking initiative that uses the power of Minecraft as a serious gaming tool to co-design and promote collaboration for Bali’s water and climate solutions. This program represents a significant step in our commitment to innovative youth engagement and climate actions.

As part of the Indonesian Wave initiative, this program is specially designed for aspiring Indonesian Wave Ambassadors. The Wave is a vibrant youth-led ecosystem that connects young individuals to share creative ideas and tackle critical global challenges related to water management, including issues of excess, contamination, and scarcity. Our goal is to empower the next generation of leaders to make a meaningful impact on these pressing issues.

Building upon the full-scale Bali Raincraft program from 2023, this project utilizes a pre-built “true-to-life” case study model and pre-developed water-climate education modules in a virtual Minecraft environment. Through these digital innovations, participants will engage in activities that enable them to explore and address Bali’s water and climate challenges. Main activities of the program include Minecraft workshops, module-based learning, field visits, co-design sessions, and idea presentations.

A key focus of the program is the Lapangan Puputan Renon area in Denpasar, Bali, which is facing significant water and climate issues, such as flooding, drainage blockages, and declining groundwater quality, due to tourism growth and inadequate management. Participants will have the chance to explore and develop solutions for these issues within a Minecraft simulation of Lapangan Puputan Renon, allowing them to present their innovative ideas for tackling these challenges. The program is structured into two distinct series: an online series from April to May 2024 and an offline hackathon series during the 10th World Water Forum from May 21 to 23, 2024. Each series offers a unique format and engages different groups of participants, providing diverse opportunities for hands-on learning and solution development.

The Water Agency is proud to lead this initiative, building on the momentum of past programs like Bali Raincraft. Moving forward, we will continue our commitment to developing innovative solutions and supporting youth-driven action on the global water agenda.
