Smart Water Resources Management System

The Water Agency, in collaboration with HKV, engaged in an assignment to develop the Smart Water Resources Management System (SWRMS) in Jakarta and Semarang. This project is designed to enhance collaboration among stakeholders and create an integrated system for managing ground and surface water. The ultimate aim is to mitigate groundwater overextraction and adopt a data-driven approach for sustainable water resource management.

In this initial phase, our focus was on building strong relationships with local government agencies and regional water companies. We engaged with over ten dinas and badan (government agencies) and PDAM (regional water companies) based in Semarang. Our goal was to understand their needs and expectations for the smart system, including their desired roles and the benefits they hope to gain. To gain deeper insights into stakeholder needs and ambitions, we organized a workshop involving more than twenty young professionals from various agencies. Participants were divided into teams to explore the system’s concept through both current and future scenarios. They evaluated the system’s functions, mapped key stakeholders, identified potential challenges, and assessed how the system could support decision-making processes.

Semarang and its surrounding areas in Central Java are serving as the pilot region for this initiative, with plans for future expansion based on successful outcomes.
