UNESCO Water Resilience Challenge 2024: Road to Bali

Continuing the journey of the UNESCO Water Resilience Challenge 2023: Youth Action for Water, The Water Agency and UNESCO are excited to present the UNESCO Water Resilience Challenge 2024: Road to Bali. This initiative aims to extend our support in empowering youth across Southeast Asia.

The winning teams from the 2023 challenge will now transition from conceptual ideas to real-world applications at their chosen UNESCO-designated sites. These include World Heritage Sites, Biosphere Reserves, and UNESCO Global Geoparks, where they will tackle pressing water issues. To ensure the success of these initiatives, the program provides participants with specialised training, mentorship, professional guidance from a board of experts, and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing. The program also prioritises community involvement, empowering participants to work closely with local populations and ensure local ownership of the solutions.

Key Pillars of the Program:
  • Actionable Results: Supporting participants to transform their ideas into practical, real-world solutions that address critical water issues in UNESCO-designated sites.
  • Regional Collaboration: Encouraging cross-country knowledge sharing and collaborative problem-solving among participants.
  • Engaging Stakeholders: Guiding participants to identify key stakeholders and develop a sound engagement strategy to ensure the sustainability of their projects.
Road to Bali

As part of the program, the implemented projects will be showcased at the 10th World Water Forum 2024 in Bali, Indonesia. In addition, selected teams are invited to personally present and discuss their projects with the WWF2024 delegates and visitors.

Overall, we are confident that this challenge will demonstrate the potential and power of youth to make a tangible contribution to water resilience.
