Sediment Behavior in Yangon Estuary & Water Injection Dredging Workshop was the two-day program and was organized together by the Netherlands Embassy and The Water Agency on 13th and 14th of January, 2020.

The workshop is part of a program of Dutch Partnership for Urban Water and Water Logistics namely Partners for International Business (PIB) project which was developed since 2018 in Myanmar and it was about collaborating for water and climate resilient Yangon between the Dutch government and Myanmar government.

In that two-day workshop, it was mainly focused on water logistics for creating a resilient logistics center in a multi-model transport system. The workshop involved presentation of the current conditions and operation of Yangon Estuary by local stakeholders, sharing experience about water injection dredging (WID) from foreign projects by international experts and also a very energetic discussion session on how WID can contribute to a sustainable Yangon Estuary.

Local governmental stakeholders: Myanmar Port Authorities, Myanmar Maritime University, and private companies and additionally, international partner, Van Oord are involved in this workshop which aims to collaborate with Myanmar businesses, knowledge institutions and authorities to;

  • Develop alternative (master) plans and feasibility for the city and its port and waterways 
  • Deliver urban, port and waterway design 
  • Maintain ports and waterways with state-of-the-art dredging techniques
  • Give advice on project finance
